Tourism: Royal Father Appeals For Development  Of “Akokwa Waterfront”

The traditional ruler of Mgbundukwu Community in Diobu, Port Harcourt City Local Government Area of Rivers State, HRH, Eze Tobin Owabie has appealed for the development of Akokwa Street Waterfront in Mile II, Diobu, Port Harcourt.

In a chat with newsmen over the weekend in his palace, he said: “the area is very strategic for landscaping and development for tourist attraction”, he said.

He made it clear that the River there needs dredging to help the fishing activities and a bridge built across to the Eagle Island Community for easy interaction.

Eze Owabie also appealed that the proposed flyover at Ikokwu junction should be named “Rumu nu Odo flyover” when completed to immortalize the three benefiting communities of Rumuobiekwe, Rumuwoji and Mgbundukwu.

The monarch regretted the discriminatory attitude of the outgoing Mayor of Port Harcourt, Hon. Victor Ihunwo (aka: Voko) in course of his administration which he noted, has left the council area more divided than he met it.

He cited the action of Hon Ihunwo during the flag-off of the Ikokwu flyover which he pointed out, drew the anger of the governor at the event.

In his own words: “The Mayor first greeted the Motor Spare Parts dealers, Ndigbo kwenu! which shouldn’t have been because according to the governor, it is not their land. Later Hon. Ihunwo gave out money to his Nkpolu-Oroworukwo women group only leaving out the Rumuobiekwe, Mgbundukwu and Rumuwoji Communities with the flimsy excuse that he did not invite them and this action has tore, the communities apart.

Eze Owabie wondered aloud why Hon Ihunwo has refused to learn from their political master, governor Wike, citing the various suspension from office that dotted his administration as testimonies of his incompetence.

He used the opportunity to congratulate Governor Nyesom Ezenwo Wike for the recognition of HRH Eze Omunnakwe N. Nsirim, Apiti of Rumueme kingdom and HRH Eze Anthony Akarolo of Elekahia kingdom as first and second class traditional rulers respectively in the state.

The monarch appealed that the gesture should be extended to other deserving traditional rulers in the state as vacancies are filled with new ones.
