Royal Father Harps On Unity, Security As Nigeria Clocks 51

The Chairman of Rivers State Council of Traditional Rulers, HM King Prof. T.J.T. Pr1ncewill Amachree XI, Amanyanabo of Kalabari Kingdom has said Nigeria's 51st Independence anniversary calls for sober reflection by the citizenry on the journey so far.

In a goodwill message signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Isikima Harry and made available to newsmen in Port Harcourt, the royal father said that the first fifty years of Nigeria's nationhood was filled with mixed grill; an oil boom which could have translated into socio-economic prosperity for all Nigerians but which unfortunately has been mismanaged, the country, rode through a topsy-turvy history that witnessed unavoidable civil war; an aborted civilian governance and military incursion before berthing at our present democratic experience.

The Kalabari monarch, however, emphasized that the challenges confronting the nation at 51 were the twin monsters of insecurity and disunity.

These Challenges, according to king Princewill can be overcome if all Nigerians irrespective of tribe, tongue or religion join hands with the authorities to flush out the forces of evil from our land.

He said the time has come for all citizens to see the battle against terrorism as one that should not be left alone for security agencies, so as to prevent the current wave of bombing and killing from escalating.

Besides, the chairman stressed that every effort must be made to maintain the corporate existence of Nigeria, saying that our strength as a nation lies in our diversity.

The Royal father canvassed for a summit of royal fathers from the nation's geo-political zones in order to move the country forward.###
