We Enjoy Light In Govt House, Amaechi Tells NLC

The Rivers State Governor, Rt. Hon Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi has told the Nigeria Labour Congress that he enjoys constant electricity in the Brick House.

The governor stated this while receiving members of the NLC, and Civil organizations who were protesting the removal of fuel subsidy that has subsequently raised the cost of transportation.

The NLC led by Comrade Chris Oruge had marched to the Government House, demanding the immediate reversal of the decision to remove the fuel subsidy by President Goodluck Jonathan.

Gov. Amaechi who agreed to convey their message to the president, said the action of the president was in the best interest of the people as it would lead to the revival of the economy.

He said he was pleading on behalf of the masses that would suffer since they in the Government House have constant light and other facilities and could move around without hindrance.

The governor said he has met with the National Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW and they have reached an agreement to reduce the transport fare in Port Harcourt.

He said the real issue challenging the nation is the Boko Haram and should not be compounded by the protest against removal of fuel subsidy.

Governor Amaechi said the state would receive up to N44bn and would like the people to decide with him how to utilize it and that continuous fuel subsidy would lead to a stage where light, water and other social amenities could not be provided.

“In Government House we enjoy light, we enjoy water, food and others” , he stated, adding that he was ready for a Town Hall meeting with leaders of the NLC whenever they demand.

The governor's plea met a resounding ‘No’ from the protesting workers when he said, “I'll beg Rivers State workers, in view of the contributions I have made, please call off the strike”.###
