“I am grateful to God for the opportunity accorded me in the sports festival, and that is my last national sports festival. My focus is now on international competitions where I am sure of winning laurels for Nigeria”.###

NPL: Things Will Be Better This  Season ~ Baribote

“I feel really great. I want to thank God and all those who helped us to commence the league because left for me and my board members alone, we would not have achieved it. But because we have the support of the club representatives, that is their chairmen, we were able to achieve this feat, and also the press that has been portraying the commencement of the league”.

These were the words of the chairman of the Nigeria Premier League (NPL), Chief Victor Baribote who was elated by the successful kick off of the Nigeria league as slated.

The chairman while chatting with newsmen promised that this season of 2011/2012 will be a better one in as much as the league kicked off when slated, saying it was a good beginning.

He expressed satisfaction on the week one results. “I'm impressed with the day one of the league because there was no incident of fighting and violence which is one thing that the people have been preaching.  From the results so far, we recorded about three or four draws away, and more victories.

“With this development, if we can sustain it, we will achieve so much with the Nigeria premier league this time around”.

In the area of fund relief which the NPL has not received for some seasons, the chairman promised that his regime will turn things round.

“Considering the fact that for the past one or two seasons, there were no sponsors. Fortunately we are in for one and so it's not going to be the same. In the past we had not been getting anything from the TV rights, but this time around no matter how small it is, we have to start from somewhere. No matter how meager it is, this board will try its best. If things are done properly, TV rights are where the clubs get their money. And if we put things in the right perspective, the clubs could get so much money from TV rights and to get the burden off the government because we dependent upon the government”.###
