Shun Bitterness, Sit Tight Syndrome, Elders Council Charges Politicians

By Jonathan Isiguzo

Political office holders and politicians in Imo State have again been reminded that elections are all about winning and losing, and never a do or die affair.

A group known as Rescue Mission Elders Council gave this advice while commending Governor Rochas Okorocha on his Appeal Court victory over the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Calling for support for the Okorocha administration in Owerri recently, Chief Donatus Osueze, leader of the Elders Council said  political aspirants and office holders should imbibe the spirit of sportsmanship in political contests.

According to Chief Osueze, the Okorocha administration has divine endorsement and should be allowed to stay.

He frowned at the selfishness and penchant of some politicians not to accept election results in good faith, stressing that in all situations, public interest must take precedence  over personal desires and wishes.

To enjoy a lasting democracy, Chief Osueze said popular and public opinion must be given a chance, arguing that it is the best yardstick to measure the acceptability of the individual politicians.

The Rescue Elders Council further charged politicians to shun unnecessary court litigations in light of the successes already recorded by the present administration in Imo State.

On what it described as giant strides of Chief Rochas Okorocha in so short a time of his tenancy as the Chief executive officer of Imo State, the Elders Council said the state now has face lift and called on all Imolites and residents to rally round his administration for more developmental projects in the state.###
