Khana Cashier’s Death:  UST Final Year Student, Others Nabbed For Armed Robbery

A final year student of the   Department   of Accounting   in   the Rivers  State  University   of Science   and   Technology (RSUST), Port Harcourt, one Princewill   Zornata   and Emmanuel   Dum-Ale   have been nabbed by  the Rivers State   Police   Command for their involvement in the alleged armed robbery operation which led to the killing of the cashier of Khana Local Government Area along Kira-Bori route in the ember month' 2011.

Parading the suspected armed robbers before newsmen at Police Officers' Mess, Old Forces Avenue, GRA in Port Harcourt Monday, January 2, 2012, the Commissioner of Police, Barr Suleiman Abba disclosed that the notorious gang of armed robbers who had been brandishing sophisticated weapons were arrested.

Abba hinted that the driver of the chairman of Khana Local Government Area leaked out the information on the withdrawal of money by the cashier to the hoodlums, saying that the cashier was escorted by two policemen.

He said that the armed robbers waylaid and fired at them along the Kira-Bori route, while the two policemen responded by firing back and one of the suspects sustained gunshot wounds and ran to Aba in Abia State for treatment, noting that during the incident, the Khana council cashier was killed by the armed robbers.

According to him, “as the suspect was receiving treatment, the police went to Aba and he was arrested, following assistance by policemen from the Abia Police Command. Also, one of the suspects led the police to their hideout at Akwa Ibom State and weapons were recovered”.

“Among the weapons recovered included 4 AK47 rifles, FMG gun, 20 rounds of ammunition kept in the suspect's (Princewill) house. He had also escaped with bullet wounds. This is not the first time that the Rivers State Police command had been firing at the suspect. He is a notorious criminal. His Toyota Camry model car was also recovered, but the driver of the council chairman is still at large and has been declared wanted.”

Answering questions, the police commissioner disclosed that investigation reveals that the driver to the council chairman had already taken two days casual leave prior to the incident and had paid part payment for a piece of land, waiting for his share of the deal.

When interviewed, the suspected armed robber, Princewill Zornata, 29, disclosed that he hails from Korokoro Community in Tai Local Government Area and further claimed to be a final year student of the Department of Accounting in the RSUST, Port Harcourt.

He denied involvement in the armed robbery operation, adding that he called the police emergency number which aided arrest of the suspected armed robber.

According to him, on December 9, 2011 Emma Dum-Ale called him for an armed robbery operation but he didn't join him.

When asked, Zornata said he sustained gunshot wound on his way to sell a stolen vehicle given to him by Emma Dum Ale.

Also fielding questions, the suspect, Emmanuel Dum-Ale said he hails from Beeri community in Khana Local Government Area, adding that one Neele alias Bishop from Gwara community in Khana LGA masterminded the deal and admitted that the chairman's driver leaked out the information to them.###
