Peace Returns To Rumuigbo

...As Aggrieved Chiefs, Prominent Indigenes Reconcile

By Polycarp Nwaeke

Rumuigbo, a hitherto peaceful community in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area which was torn apart sometime ago because of infighting and leadership struggle among its elite has now known peace again, courtesy of a reconciliation brokered by His Royal Majesty (HRM) Eze Ambassador Sir S. N. Wali, Eze Apara III and Paramount Ruler of Apara Kingdom among aggrieved chiefs and other prominent indigenes of the community.

Chief Allwell A. Worlu, Eze Ochi Aliri I of Ekinigbo and Chizi Ezebaraba, a former Rumuigbo Town Council Chairman disclosed this in a chat with our reporter.

Ezebaraba who spoke first told National Network that Rumuigbo Community was hitherto peaceful until a few persons in the area started behaving as if they had the power to decide the fate of everybody, and moving about as if without them nothing could work.

These persons he went on, linked the Eze Apara with the politics of the community, something he believes was an abomination considering the sacredness of the throne and the status of his majesty as a first class traditional ruler.

Ezebaraba said despite the squabbles, the community managed to hold town council election which produced Nyekwere Chinda as chairman over and above another factional group that had interest in the election.

Eze Apara, he said, recognized the election of Nyekwere Chinda and consequently swore him and his executive in to the dismay of the other group.

According to Ezebaraba, the former Town Council Chairman, this group did everything to thwart the outcome of the election, including going to court, although they later withdrew the case.

The matter, National Network was told was taken to Apara Kingdom for adjudication, but this people again tried to disobey the order of His Majesty, who thereafter delegated Chief Enyinda Chuku, Chief Madu Ihunwo and Chief E. W. Worlu to look into it.

“The three chiefs submitted their verdict which contained some penalties against those who disobeyed the Apara”, Ezebaraba disclosed.

Despite the disobedience, the former council chairman went on, Apara Kingdom in their own wisdom said, let us settle the matter and even waved off the penalties, but why this was going on, the factional group allegedly walked out on His Majesty, prompting the imposition of one cow on them.

National Network, however learnt that Eze Apara has initiated peace and reconciliation move since and have even brought back those suspended from the community, among whom were, Chief Allwell A. Worlu and Ezebaraba himself-who both now attend council meetings.

Ezebaraba said Eze Apara's reconciliation and peace efforts had brought peace and opened door for Rumuigbo to move forward.

He restated his faith in Nyekwere Chinda as chairman, Rumuigbo Town council and pledged to give his administration support.

Chief Allwell A. Worlu, Eze Ochi Aliri I of Ekinigbo, on his part said His Royal Majesty pleaded with him and others to forgive and come back to the fold in order to move Rumuigbo forward.

He said he accepted the olive branch and since then has been canvassing for peace among his people. Eze Ochi Aliri said he had equally preached peace to the elders of the community, telling them to join hands to build a prosperous Rumuogbo community.

Chief Worlu who told National Network that he had gone back to the council and now attends council meetings, pledged his support to the Apara kingdom and the administration of Nyekwere Chinda, while congratulating His Royal Majest, Eze Ambassador Sir S. N. Wali for his bold step in initiating the peace move.###
