Man Tortures Wife To Death

By Joe Kalu

Wonders they say shall never end in this sinful world. Reports have it that a middle-aged man who hails from Mbaise in Imo State has sent his pregnant wife to her untimely death.

According to eye witness accounts from neighbours at their Agip Estate residence, Mile 4, Diobu Port Harcourt, “the lady who hailed from Anambra State was under labour and informed her husband same recently. Consequently they rushed to a nearby private maternity hospital for medical attention.

On arrival at the hospital, the source continued, they were asked to deposit certain amount of money and get ready for a caesarean operation. The worried but poor expectant father did not have that kind of money and he made up his mind after some fast thinking to do it himself. “Afterall operation is operation and the same opening of the abdomen and it bringing out the content”.

He ordered the expectant mother to get ready for them to go home. Before long, he went and got a taxi drop which returned the couple to their home and trust women, she was reported to have been tongue-lashing her husband for prolonging her labour pains. The angry man not only descended on the wife with the beatings of her life but went ahead to “operated on” her with a sharp knife.

Despite the cry of the woman for help, frightened neighbours refused to come for her rescue. Eventually, the man performed the operation but unfortunately the baby gave up the ghost as soon as her mother too died as a result of the assault.

The “courageous” man went ahead and buried the baby in the uncompleted property they were living in a makeshift batcher.

Thereafter, the man “stitched” the stomach with local thread and middle and properly packaged the corpse for the mortuary. But unfortunately the curious mortuary attendants were taken aback when the bereaved husband came alone for such business which according to them normally accompany neighbours and other sympathizers.

Based on this observation and the suspect's strange movement, they contacted the police who wasted no time in unraveling the facts of the matter. Consequently, he was arrested and locked up in police cell while investigations continues.

When the Police, Public Relations Officer, Mr. Ben Ugwuegbulam was contacted, he refused to pick his calls.###
