Death Of Army Officer At Bori:
Kaani
People React
Alarmed by the misguided and image-denting print and broadcast
media reports about Teyor Kaani, occasioned by some pernicious
propaganda generated online and posted to media houses by a
faceless media aide to Mr Goodluck Diigbo, and the reactionary
statement from the Public Relations Officer. 2 Amphibious
Brigade, Bori Camp, Port Harcourt which indicted Teyor Kaani
over the killing of an army officer at Bori, Bua Kaani
comprising Gbor Kaani(Kaani 1) and Teyor Kaani (Kaani 2) is
constrained to straighten out the facts of the matter, as the
community (Bua Kaani) is seemingly being dragged into disrepute.
The information in the public domain is that the army officer
who was found dead at Bangha Oil, a filling station along
Polytechnic Road, Bori, Ogoni, was killed by kidnappers in his
effort to rescue from them a woman victim who is still being
held now.
To fish out the hoodlums responsible for the dastardly act, the
Joint Task Force (JTF) patrolled and is still patrolling flash
points of Khana Local Government Area including Kaani on routine
investigation.
This action of the security agents who are performing their
lawful duty, cannot in the people's assessment be interpreted as
military invasion of Teyor Kaani as the soldiers are not violent
in the search for wanted persons.
Reacting to this activity of the JTF, one Tambari Deckor, a
so-called Associate Editor of “MOSOP MEDIA” originated
an e-mail from mosopalert@gmail.com which alleged that 15 trucks
of battle-ready soldiers invaded Teyor Kaani, home of Mr Diigbo,
on Tuesday, January 17, 2012 at 6am and terrorized the place,
shot five persons and manhandled others.
In dismissing the allegation of invasion and terrorising of
Teyor Kaani, the Army Public Relations Officer, Lt. Col. Aminu
Iliyasu reportedly said, while the JTF was performing its
legitimate duly "in the said community, a criminal gang shot and
killed an officer" and the suspects were identified and arrested
for investigation and possible prosecution.
In the circumstance, the leadership and people of Bua Kaani
hereby state as follows for the avoidance of doubt and to dispel
unfounded ill-feelings towards the
community-:
“That while we lament the death of the army officer and condemn
all atrocious acts that undermine the security efforts of
government we the government and the good people of Rivers
State to note that the deceased soldier was killed along
Polytechnic Road, Bori and not at any part of Bua Kaani as
presented in the Army PRO's statement. Kaani is located about
three kilometres from the scene of the crime at Bori,
headquarters of Khana Local Government Area.
That the allegation by Mr Goodluck Diigbo that soldiers have
invaded and are terrorising Teyor Kaani should be
discountenanced as there is no truth in it. Neither Teyor Kaani
nor Gbor Kaani has been terrorized by the JTI operatives who are
only on routine investigation in connection with the killing of
an army officer at Bori.
That the core leadership of Bua Kaani is composed of very
high-ranking retired security officers who facilitate the
community's efforts to combat crime and expose criminals to law
enforcement agents.
That in the ongoing investigation in the Khana Local Government
Area over the killing of the soldier and abduction of the young
woman, members of Bua Kaani are being urged by the leadership to
assist the JTF to track down the killers and abductors by
availing the law-enforcement agents of any useful information on
suspicious movements in the area.
And that as a law-abiding, enlightened and civilized people, we
have always been doing our best to complement government's
security gestures with our own local security arrangement.
All statements or comments by detractors that are meant to dent
the image of Bua Kaani or discredit the security role of our
leaders should therefore be ignored by all and sundry.###
