Stop Patronizing Quacks, Architect Tells FG

By Gilbert Amadi

In order to minimize frequent collapse of buildings in the country, an architect Tams Jamabo has advised the Federal Government to stop patronizing quacks masquerading as building engineers.

Jamabo who gave this advice in an interview with newsmen at the Port Harcourt International Airport, Omagwa said Governments and individuals patronize quacks because their services are cheap compared to those of professional engineers/ architects, calling such patronage penny wise pound foolish.

Although, collapsing of buildings according to Jamabo is not synonymous with Nigeria, the frequencies of collapse could be reduced drastically if Governments and individuals could employ the services of specialists and expert engineers.

He told newsmen that Nigerians prefer cheap articles than spending money on things that have value, stressing that proper measures should be taken by government and Association of Architects to monitor construction of buildings and weed out quacks.

Architect Jamabo who disclosed that since he started practice, none of the buildings he had supervised had collapsed, repeated his call on governments and individuals to stop patronizing quacks.###
