UST Strike: HODs, Lecturers Opposed To Action

If the plot by the striking lecturers of the Rivers State University of Science and Technology was to stir up crisis in order to disrupt academic activities in the University, that would have hit the rocks.

This is because majority of the lecturers and all the Heads Of Departments (HODs) have dissociated themselves from the purported strike and have continued to go about their normal business of teaching and counseling the students.

Some of the lecturers cornered by National Network Checks said there is no cause for the intended strike, stressing there are official channels of addressing any misgivings if any.

They cited a period in the life of UST, precisely during the regime of Prof. Achinewu where nobody was consulted before the first and second appointments yet the Heavens did not fall.

They blamed their aggrieved colleagues for frittering away the opportunity offered them by Governor Chibuike Amaechi when the issue was first raised upon Prof Fakae's first appointment.

But rather than bear with him (Amaechi) the protesters proceeded to court where the case was thrown out for lack of merit only for them to get back to Amaechi on the same issue.

Except the governor decides to listen to them, otherwise, he is very right to take any action he deems right in this respect, the anti-striking lecturers stated.

On their own part, all the HODs said their offices are 24 hours open for business activities as usual.

Students are also attending their classes, shunning every attempt to be lured into the self-serving strike.###
