Amaechi's Palliative Measures, Another White Lie To Rivers
People –ACN
The Rivers
chapter of the Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, says three weeks
after Governor Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi's broadcast on fuel
subsidy removal outlining a catalogue of programmes he planned
to put in place to cushion the effects of the contentious
subsidy removal in the State, nothing has happened.
Demanding that
governor Amaechi should fulfill his new year promise to the
people, the ACN in a press statement signed by its Publicity
Secretary, Jerry Needam said the failure to live true to his
broadcast to launch a mass transit, peg transport fares on a
stipulated number of routes and establishing discount markets at
designated points in Port Harcourt metropolis has confirmed its
fears on the workability of the programme.
Regretting that
such an important broadcast to the people could easily be swept
under the carpet, the ACN spokesman, Jerry Needam said Amaechi
has only succeeded in sowing seeds of distrust and
unreliability.
The ACN said it
wonders what new explanations Governor Amaechi will give for his
failed promises, stressing that Labour/Federal Government
agreement on N97.00 pump price should not be an excuse not to go
on with his intended subsidy for the Rivers people.
The statement
further noted that the transport fare still remains what it was
during the nationwide strike with the concomitant rise in market
prices. Yet, the Amaechi administration continues to act a
lame-duck in floating the magic wand called discount markets.
“In the past we
had accused the Amaechi led-government of acting before thinking
and deceiving the Rivers people by its deeds, this fuel subsidy
removal broadcast has just vindicated us. We therefore make bold
to ask Amaechi to disengage from mere rhetorics and face the
real challenges of good governance and concrete actions.###
