Clergyman Lauds Jonathan Over Sack Of IG- By Amadi Gilbert

A clergyman, Rev. Fr. Dr. Edward Obi has commanded the measure taken by Mr President, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan in sacking the former Inspector General of Police Hafiz Ringim, describing it as a step in the right direction.

Addressing Newsmen at the Port Harcourt International Airport Omagwa, Rivers State recently Obi said, it would have be better for the inspector General to resign for allowing a highly valued criminal to escape from detention.

“The former IG should apologize to Nigerians for his incompetence”, he said.

On the state of the nation, Dr. Obi who is the executive secretary of the Niger Delta Catholic Forum regretted the fact that a group of people had decided to hold the country to ransom on an issue that lack ideological base like violence, adding that, Nigeria is not a banana republic where people can stand and began to challenge government and treat it without respects while calling the government to tighten up security.

He also denied the issue of any face off between Christians and Muslims, describing the attack on Christians by Moslems as unfair but warned those involved in bombing of churches to desist from the act, adding that if it continues Christians would be forced to react or challenge it.

He advised the Federal Government to take the issue of protection of lives and properties serious, adding that Nigerians should go on their knees in prayers to God in order to arrest the situation.###
