Suspension of 11 Council Chairmen: Gov. Amaechi Bows To Pressure

The unconstitutional suspension of the 11 Eleven local government council chairmen has been reversed by governor Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi.

The reversal order according to a statement signed by Amaechi's Commissioner for Information and Communications, Ibim Semeritari is with immediate effect.

The Rivers State chapter of the Action Congress of Nigeria ACN, criticized governor Amaechi undermining insulting due process by the arbitrary manner he booted out the elected council chairmen.

Citing the relevant constitutional provisions fouled by governor Amaechi's action, the ACN in a strong worded statement signed by its publicity secretary, Jerry Needam compelled Amaechi to reverse the order. The party also cajoled  the State House of Assembly for rather than reprimand Amaechi for the act of lawlessness went on to ratify the suspension, calling them a mere rubber – stamp.

The recalled chairmen allegedly came late to a joint periodical meeting with the governor while some were reportedly absent.

But unofficial report had it that there were other reasons for the suspension bordering on insubordination and divided loyalty.###
