Latest On Amaechi, Wike Imbroglio

… Wike's Followers Urge Him To Switch Support To Omehia

… Considers Advice

Barrister Nyesom Wike, Minister of State for Education and the immediate past Chief of Staff, Rivers State Government House is said to be considering the advice of his followers to abandon Governor Amaechi and switch support to Omehia.

A considerable number of these followers who spoke to National Network on condition of anonymity said they were uncomfortable with the frequent altercations between the two while condemning what they described as the lackadaisical treatment Amaechi is meting out on Wike who they said was instrumental to putting him in power.

Many of them recalled how Wike spent his hard-earned money in support of Amaechi's cause, especially when he was moving from court of court contesting the election of Barrister Celestine Omehia.

In those difficult days, they went on, virtually all Amaechi's political friends abandoned him except Nyesom Wike who stood by him and fought his judicial battles with him.

“See how long the man is being paid back, stripped of everything, including those he recommended for appointments”, one of them lamented.

Although, Amaechi's group has charged that the governor compensated Wike with the position of Chief of Staff, a position they said he used in recouping the money he spent during the governor's trials and even influenced his appointment as a minister, Wike's supporters have continued to insist that he abandons Amaechi and pitch his tent with Sir Celestine Omehia.

Wike is said to be considering the option and had reportedly made some comments favourable to Omehia's cause.

Besides his alleged admittance to a caucus of his supporters that he was mooting the idea of extending support to the former governor, Wike was said to have welcome the latest Tribunal's ruling which insisted that it would hear/entertain Omehia's petition against Governor Amaechi over alleged anomalies in the April 2011 election.

The ruling which was delivered last week by the Hon. Justice Abdulahi Liman led tribunal was said to have sent shivers down the spines of Government House occupants.

With Wike working with Omehia especially now that the latter's chances of going back to Government House look bright, things might turned out not so good for the governor.###
