…Makes Case For Journalists

A security expert in Rivers State, Rev (Amb) Kriss Natty Rissi, Deputy National Commander (DNC), Operations, Monitoring and intelligence, Man ‘O’ War, Abuja, has received a Media Merit Award from Grassroot Journalists, Rivers State Chapter.

Responding, the recipient, Rev Rissi said he was overwhelmed, excited and humbled by the award, promising never to relent in those identified outstanding virtues of his, which have earned him the recognition.

According to him, “Most people don’t know that I am also known and called the ‘Hon Speaker of the less privileged’ and as a volunteer, I have suffered losses in course of defending people”.

Commander Rissi was full of praises and sympathy at the same time for Nigerian Journalists, whom he noted work like an elephant but eat like the ants.

“Despite their enormous contributions and sacrifices in the society journalists are not adequately rewarded or recognized”, urging that Government should as a matter of urgency do something to alleviate their suffering.

On the dispersing of the Neighbourhood Watch trainees by the army, the security expert said the development is temporary as talks are going on for its resumption because the importance of the security outfit cannot be over emphasized.

Commander Rissi made it clear that the Neighbourhood Watch scheme was an instrument of law that duly passed through the Rivers State House of Assembly to complement the security effort of the Police, through intelligence gathering and that nobody will say the state has no power to make laws for its citizens.

He stated that the instruction to the soldiers to disperse the trainees might not have come from the Army authorities but the political opponents. “The enemy of Rivers people is not the military but the opposition parties who see nothing good in their opponent”, he noted.

Commander Rissi made it known that the service of men involved in community policing who know the terrains of their area is to assist security government agencies  achieve their aims and objectives of securing lives and property. “It is Governor Wike today, tomorrow it might be another person at the helm of affairs, we should all join hands together and fight insecurity for peaceful co-existence and development.

On the political situation in the country, Rev (Amb) Rissi said the governments at all levels should be firm and do what is right.

He used the opportunity to urge the police and other security agencies not to compromise their duties but read the riot act to all the political parties and act decisively against offenders, especially during the political campaigns.

He equally used the opportunity to appeal to the INEC to endeavour to conduct a free, fair and credible election in 2019.
