Tai Council Chairman Has Shown Capacity – KAGOTE

…As Okpe Reveals Where He Stays To Run Council Affairs

Apex Ogoni socio-cultural body, KAGOTE, has commended the Chairman of Tai Local Government Area, Hon. Friday Mbakpone Okpe, for his noble achievements in just a hundred days in office.

Speaking at the Council headquarters in Saakpenwa on Thursday, when he led members of the group on inspection tour of projects carried out by Hon. Okpe in 100 days, President of KAGOTE, Hon. Emma Deeyah said the Chairman has performed reasonably well, considering that Tai is the youngest Council in Ogoni land.

Led on the visit by the team which comprised of the former Vice Chancellor of Rivers State University ((RSU), Professor Barineme Beke Fakai, Chief (Mrs.) Priscilla Vikue, Chief Joseph Siaka, Barrister BarieleGbezia, Mr. Dominic Saatah, Chief Precious Ngbor, Barrister Festus Nwamae, Comrade MeneleNzidee, Dr. Mensua Wilson, Mr. Obele Chu and Mr. Chujor Saka, the KAGOTE leader said what the Chairman has put on the ground gave hope of a bright future for rapid development in Ogoni land.

Hon. Deeyah said the visit to Saakpoenwa is the first in the series of planned tour of Local Government Councils and institutions in Ogoni land.

Expressing appreciation to the Chairman for his noble role during the recent reception of Governor Nyesom Ezenwo Wike by the Ogoni ethnic nationality, the Kagote President urged him to keep up the tempo.

He said KAGOTE is happy with the peace pervading in Tai Local Government, even as he commended the Chairman for his proactive policies and programs that is driving development in the Council.

Hon Deeyah gave the assurance that Kagote would always be ready to discharge it’s fatherly duty whenever and wherever it is called upon.

In his response, the Executive Chairman of Tai Local Government Area, Hon. Friday Mbakpone Okpe thanked the Kagote team, saying he was most honoured to receive the guests whom he described as ‘people of eminence and the movers and shakers of Ogoni land’.

Cataloguing what he said were modest achievements recorded within 100 days in office, the Chairman gave kudos to his vice and principal officers of the Council as well as the Secretary, Mr. Joe Gbezia for their noble efforts and cooperation.

Hon. Okpe revealed that since assumption of office on the 16th day of June, 2021, he has kept faith with the directive of Governor Nyesom Ezenwo Wike that no Chairman should run the Council from Port Harcourt.

“I want to inform this noble gathering that I am a native of Kpite. Since I was sworn in, I have been staying in Kpite and I come to work from there every day. I have to lead by example, and I am proud to tell you that the same applies to the Councilors in the Council. We have to stay here and ensure that the work is done”, he said.

The Tai Council boss later led the visitors for an inspection of the ultra-modern Police Station and another edifice housing the office of the Department of State Security (DSS) in Tai Local Government Area.
