Natives Desert Ogoni Community Over Incessant Killings By Gunmen

Reports reaching our news desk indicate that most natives of Kono Boue Community in Khana Local Government Area of Rivers State have deserted the community over incessant killings by unknown gunmen.

We learned that on Saturday 15th May 2021,unknown gunmen invaded Kono Boue community and killed four young men simply identified as Lekara Bira, 32, Torka, 40, and two others in the wee hours of the night.

We gathered that the unknown gunmen who were in possession of AK 47 rifles shot at any young man on sight.

The Public Relations Officer of the Community Development Committee (CDC), Golden Nwibakpo in an interview with our reporter decried the incessant killings in Kono Boue.

Mr Nwibakpo disclosed that the four men who were killed were law-abiding citizens of the community and were not gang members as speculated.

Mr. Nwibakpo stressed the need for police authority to site a police station in the community to curb the incessant killings while urging the Rivers State Government to make the deplorable road in the community motorable to ensure proper patrol of the area by security agencies.

He further disclosed that the community was deserted as residents fled to Bori town, the capital of Khana LGA.

It would be recalled that unknown gunmen penultimate Sunday killed Nkpa Awolowo, a fifty-eight-year old man in the community.

It would also be recalled that three suspected kidnappers/cultists were killed in the community in a fierce gun battle with men of Bori Police Division last month.

SP Nnamdi Omoni, spokesperson of Rivers State Police Command, was yet to respond to text messages by our reporter on the incident.
