MWAN Calls For Testing Centres In Rivers

As Medical Women who are committed to the well being of all, especially women and children, the Medical Women’s Association Of Nigeria, Rivers State Branch (MWAN), has called on Government to fast track the provision of testing centres in the state.

In a press statement signed by the president of the association, Dr Vetty Agala, she said as the world battles with the ravaging scourge of the corona virus (COVID 19), especially as  it has arrived on our shores, there is need to make the testing centres available in the state.

In recognition of the efforts being made by Government at different levels, the association commended the Rivers State for the proactive steps taken so far to curb the menace and protect the lives of the people in the state.

The female doctors and dentists also pledged their readiness to provide forums for discussions and implementation of programs aimed at improvement of the health of all especially that of women and children during this trying period.

She further disclosed that MWAN will continue to inform and educate the general public on key health issues especially as regards COVID 19 prevention.

“We would continue to sensitize and raise awareness on COVID 19 through health talks on all forms of media and also  encourage our members to volunteer and be a part of the state COVID – 19 response team”, the MWAN President assured.

 Dr Vetty who warned against spreading of fake news enjoined everyone to get information from reliable sources like the NCDC, WHO and the Ministry of Health while  calling on all health workers to ensure they observe international best practices of Infection Prevention and control (IPC) when treating patients.

On the precautionary measures she urged the general public to strictly adhere to all the precautionary measures especially social distancing and basic hygiene noting that shunning of forms of public gathering will drastically reduce COVID -19 spread.
