Court Set To Give Judgement On Suit Against Army, DSS, Police

A Port-Harcourt High Court is set to give judgement on a suit, brought before it by the Chairman of Akuku-Toru Local Government Area of Rivers State and two others against the Nigerian Army, Department of State Service and Nigerian Police.

The Chairman of Akuku-Toru Local Government Area, Hon. Rowland Sekibo, Tobins Tobins and Damiete Dokubo had filed a suit in the Rivers State High Court and asked for an order of court to prevent the Nigerian Army, the Department of State Service and the police from further declaring them wanted or wanting to arrest them in connection with the violence in Abonnema, the headquarters of the local government area, during the February 23rd Presidential election.

The presiding judge, Justice George Omereji, fixed June 20 for judgement after hearing arguments from counsel to complainants and the defendants in the court proceedings on Monday.

Sekibo, Tobins and Dokubo who are the complainants in the case are also demanding N100 milllion as damages for each of them as complainants.

The counsel to Chairman of Akuku-Toru local government area, Barr. Ibim Dokubo, told journalists after the proceedings on Monday that he had presented all necessary applications, adding that he would wait for the judgement by the court.

Apart from the counsel to the Department of State Service who was in court, the other counsels for the defence for the two other defendants were not in court on Monday.

 Meanwhile, Rivers State Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike, had set up a  commission of inquiry to look into the violence and killings that characterized the February 23rd presidential elections in the state.

Governor Wike gave the commission 30 days within which to submit  report.
