Rivers Governance: Ogoni Qualified, But We Needed A Rivers State Governor – Kpakol

A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Rivers State Commissioner for Agriculture, Dr. Fred Kpakol has again clarified the misconceptions of many of his Ogoni kinsmen regarding the production of a governor of Ogoni ethnic extraction as it related with the just ended Governorship Election in the state.

Speaking at a dinner organized by the Ogoni Sim Vanguard (OSV) at the Le Meridien Hotels, GRA, Port Harcourt on Monday, Dr. Kpakol stated that in governance, no one individual or ethnic nationality could do it in isolation.

He expressed worries that some Ogonis look at the issue of governance from very contrastive point of view, stating that Ogonis, by every indices are qualified to be governor of the state.

“But we cannot just microwave it into a smaller group.  You have to relate with the state.  We need a Rivers State governor that will take care of the interest of everybody.

“Look at what we are talking about.  Sim Fubara coming from our Senatorial zone, you all know that no Opobo man and Ogoni have had any problem anywhere any day.  Opobians are very good neighbor to us.  Bori is our traditional headquarter, and every Ogoni man whether here or elsewhere, except those that have gone to the celestial plane, value Bori than anywhere else”, he posited.

Dr. Kpakol further stated that there was no way an Opobo man as governor would be discussed without mention of the Rivers South East Senatorial district, and Bori as the traditional headquarters including the inherent development that would be derived from Sim’s governorship.

He told the Ogoni Sim Vanguard that the priorities they made would not be misplaced, stating that he considers some issues being discussed on the radio by some Ogonis as laughable.

“The just ended governorship election was won neat and clear, by the PDP.  Nothing was manipulated.  We prayed for the people’s votes to count and it counted.  Our home was very well mobilized and we won from all the units, wards and the Local Government Areas”, he said and enjoined the OSV leadership and members to keep up the good works.
