Death Of  Law Enforcer: Rumuodara Community Halts Collection Of Levies

Following the death of one Clement, a task force member of tricycle union last Tuesday at Rumuodara under Obio/Akpor local Government Area of Rivers State, the community youths have stopped the collection of ticket money, by task force from Tricycle drivers at Rumuodara /Aba road, our reporter gathered.

We also learnt that the operation of Tricycle at Aliohani, Rumudoro communities of Rumuodara has been suspended following the death of Clement.

The President of Rumuodara Youth Association, Frank Weli, in a  Telephone interview with our reporter disclosed that the decision was taken to prevent further loss of live and property.

It would be recalled that  there was pandemonium  last Tuesday morning at Okporo/Rumuodara and East/West road axis over reports of death of  Clement said to be a Keke task force personnel.

One Kelvin, a keke task force official who hails from Edo state reportedly used machete to cut the deceased who happened to be his colleague over sharing of  money last Sunday.

We gathered that the suspect was arrested last Sunday, 24 May after the incident while the victim was taken to hospital.

Our source revealed that sympathizers and relatives of the deceased took to the street to protest  when report of death of Clement filtered in, but the protest became violent as hoodlums hijacked the process and  unleashed mayhem on People.

Our source disclosed that it took the intervention of Okporo Police Station at Rumuodara and SARS to bring the situation under control.

We learned that some persons were also arrested in connection with the disturbances.

Confirming the incident, the Youth President of Rumuodara, Frank Weli said he quickly informed the Police on hearing about the protest. He dissociated his Youth from any destruction while saying that hoodlums wanted to take advantage of the situation to cause mayhem but they were prevented by the Police.

The suspect, Kelvin, had been transferred to the state Criminal Investigation Department, SCID.

The spokesperson of Rivers State Police Command, Deputy Superintendent of Police(DSP) Nnamdi Omoni was yet to speak on the matter at the time of filing this report.
