…Demands Mass Transport Buses For Rivers
…Re-echoes Call For Restructuring of Nigeria
Elder statesman, Rev. (Dr) Soberekon Sokari has tasked former Rivers State Governor, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi to use his reappointment as Transportation Minister to bring impactful federal presence to Rivers State.
Sokari while lauding his reappointment, urged him to use his position to help Rivers people by sending transit buses to the State to ease the people’s transport difficulty and save them the stress of commuting on rickety ‘Danfo’ and ‘Vanagon’ buses.
The renowned non partisan activist also urged Amaechi to revive the moribund Mono Rail project in the State and make it a federal project, which should continue to Creek Road, Borikiri, Tourist Beach, Kalio-Ama and Refinery to East-west Road, Elelenwo where lesser building will be affected.
Sokari who spoke to journalists in Port Harcourt on Monday, advised the Transportation Minister to provide ferry boats for the state’s inland waterways, lamenting that the only ferry boat available at the yard is in a shabby state.
The activist who is also a reverend gentleman, said he would want the federal government to take over the construction of the Okrika-Port Harcourt link bridge which was started by the Goodluck Jonathan administration.
While commending Governor Nyesom Wike for setting up a Project Committee as part of his 100 days celebration, he appealed to the governor to build a flyover from Garrison through Ogbunabali to Imama Apakabo Eastern By Pass to connect Borikiri, Refinery and burst out at East West Road.
“I also appeal to our Governor not to build any project for the federal government. I further appeal to President Buhari to stop taxation on oil derivation.
“I am also calling on the President to restructure Nigeria to six geo-political zones for faster development of the people”, he said, adding that patriotism is better than sycophancy.
