Oba Of Ogbaland Commends NUJ Over Peaceful Election, Mourns Elder Nwikinaka’s Death

The Oba (Eze-Ogba) of Ogbaland and Patron, Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), His Eminence, Sir (Dr) Chukumela Nnam Obi II (OON, DSSRS, AP, JP) has congratulated the newly elected National leadership of Nigeria Union of Journalist led by Mr. Chris Ikechukwu Isiguzo on their emergence and subsequent inauguration.

He also commended members of the Union for a peaceful and successful 6th Triennial Delegates Conference held at Abeokuta, Ogun State Capital.

The Ogba monarch, a former Chairman, Rivers State Council of Traditional Rulers in a statement by his media aide, Prince Charles Amadike-Otoboh, JP, expressed happiness that NUJ were able to organize the widely reported free, fair, credible and peaceful election to usher in new National Officers and urged political parties and other unions to emulate them.

Oba Chukumela Nnam Obi described as very unfortunate and sad the reported death of the Vice Chairman of Ebonyi State Council of NUJ, Mr. Sam Nweke who was killed by armed robbery attack while returning back home after the NUJ Confab and remarked that those who killed the harmless journalist will leave to regret their action and prayed God to grant the soul of the deceased eternal rest and as well comfort the bereaved family and the entire journalists in Nigeria. 

He thanked God for journey mercies from the conference of all other States Councils of NUJ especially the Rivers State delegates led by its State Chairman, Mr. Job Stanley Job.

Meanwhile, the Oba (Eze-Ogba) of Ogbaland, His Eminence, Sir (Dr) Chukumela Nnam Obi II has joined the good people of Rivers State to mourn the death of a former Chairman of NUJ Rivers State Council, and a prominent son of the State, Mr. Augustine Nwikinaka.

He described the demise of Mr. Nwikinaka whom he described as one of his close associates as unfortunate and great loss not only to the Pen Profession but the entire Rivers State noting that when the deceased was the Rivers State Chairman of NUJ, Chief Press Secretary to Rivers State Governor and later General Manager, Rivers State Newspaper Corporation, Port Harcourt, he was always coming to his (Oba) palace for fatherly blessings and advice.

The Late Mr. Nwikinaka according to the NUJ life patron was a fine communicator, outspoken journalist, humble, reliable, peaceful, astute administrator and God fearing gentle man and therefore consoled the immediate family and members of the NUJ both at the Federal and Rivers State levels and prayed God to give them the fortitude to bear the loss and grant the deceased eternal rest.
