Twelve days after a seven-storey building collapsed in Port-Harcourt with uncertain number of construction workers trapped in the rubbles, anxious relatives have remained on the site, praying and fasting for miracle.
The relatives told newsmen on Tuesday that they are still hoping to see their loved ones pulled out of the wreckage either dead or alive.
At the site of the building, a relative of one of the victims said “my younger brother named Alalibo, who normally work here was in the building when it collapsed. Every day, I come here praying and hoping to see him come out alive”.
Other goosey relatives of the construction workers said, “The government is trying but it is not enough, we want them to intensify the rescue action, lets know whether they are alive or not”.
The relatives cried out as they lamented that the government’s rescue effort is not giving them hope to hold on strong to the belief that those stuck in the building are still alive.
Some residents of the area appealed to the government to intensify the rescue operations as the environment was becoming more uncomfortable to stay due to the offensive odour from dead bodies of those stuck in the building.
