How Kidnap Suspect Allegedly Escaped From Police Custody In Rivers

Controversy is raging over the alleged escape of a kidnap suspect nicknamed “Emene” from the detention facility of the Police Eagle Crack Unit located in Mile 1 Divisional Police station, Diobu, Port Harcourt.

National Network gathered that the suspect who was arrested in connection with one alleged kidnapped Darlington, a printing press operator in Port Harcourt, escaped two hours after his arrest despite being tightly restrained with handcuffs.

The escaped kidnap suspect, according to our source, was trailed to Abba waterfront in Mile 1 Diobu by the Police while his gang members were on the process of cutting the handcuff on his hands.

A resident of the community, who pleaded anonymity, informed our reporter that the Police on getting to the place and sighting the hoodlums engaged them in a shootout.

During the process, one of the suspects simply identified as Godwin who is said to be in his twenties and hails from Akwa Ibom State was allegedly wounded while other members of the gang including “Emene” escaped.

The resident revealed that Godwin who was fatally wounded and was taken to the station by the Police who also confiscated the speed boat believed to be owned by the gang.

When our reporter sought comments from the father of the fatally wounded Godwin, he denied insinuations that his son is a member of the kidnap gang. Even Godwin’s wife, when approached by our reporter, also collaborated claims of the suspect’s father that her husband was innocent.

National Network also gathered that many suspects have been arrested in connection with the kidnap of the printing press operator who was abducted on 2nd November, 2019 at his office at Azikiwe Street, Diobu, Port Harcourt.

The spokesperson of Rivers State Police command, who is also a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Nnamdi Omoni, was yet to respond to text messages sent to his mobile line.

Feelers emerging from the Police indicate that officers who were on duty the day the kidnap suspect reportedly escaped may face orderly trial.

As at press time, the suspect who was said to have escaped from Police custody is still at large.
