Ruthies Magazine Launched to Salvage Rivers Culture, Celebrate Womanhood

The maiden edition of the Ruthies Magazine, a fashion and culture-focused magazine published by the Ruthies Brand, has been launched in Port Harcourt, Rivers State capital.

The Ruthies magazine, which was dedicated to the Rivers Woman, tells the story of the African Woman ranging from culture, birth to marriage, amongst others.

The Speaker, Rivers State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon Ikunyi-Owaji Ibani while unveiling the magazine on Sunday, commended the publisher for celebrating women and showcasing Rivers State to the world, as well as promoting the African cultures and traditions.

He said the law of every society is a product of the combination of several factors to include; social, economic, political, tradition and cultures of the people.

The lawmaker noted that the Rivers State House of Assembly has emancipated women so much in terms of how they are viewed and how they look at their own ways too. He described the magazine as very profound.

Earlier in her address, Publisher of the Ruthies, Mrs. Ruth Davies Ibiamu said the magazine is all about celebrating the Rivers Woman, promoting decency in dressing among women and protecting the diverse African cultures and tradition, especially in Rivers State from extinction.

She also noted that “The Ruthies fashion brand was birthed with the underlying philosophy to highlight and celebrate the poise, refinement and sophistication of womanhood via fashion.

“I love the woman that I am today. I love that I am a Rivers woman and I think that the Rivers woman should be celebrated.

“It’s all about celebrating womanhood, it’s about probity, teaching women that they could cover up with our two wrappers, our blouses and still look very beautiful, we don’t need to go out there naked.

“I am trying to tell the world that we have a culture and that the Rivers women, we love our traditional wears so much. I advise all the women to go back to our cultural attires and showcase them to the world.”

“Today, I am particularly excited that the Ruthies Brand, in the company of friends will be stepping into a new phase of her vision. Telling the story of the African woman through fashion has been our passion and being able to document the stories we have created over the years is a deeply satisfying feat to accomplish.”

On his part, a Chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Rivers State, Chief Dr. Davies Ibiamu Ikanya said the Ruthies magazine will go along way in restoring several Rivers and African cultures and traditions which he feared might be going into extinction if things are allowed to go the way it’s going.

“Let people come out to showcase their culture so that we too can tell the world that we also have a culture.

“Very soon if we are not careful, our languages will extinct because we are not developing our languages, even our traditions, some of us don’t even know again.

“I want all hands to be on deck to showcase the Rivers woman in her traditions and elegance.

“Our traditional attires in Rivers State are very rich. But simply because we are not showcasing it, people are not talking about our own, they only talk about the way of dressing of others.”
