FG Orders Resident Doctors Back To Work, Says Most Of Their Demands Met

The Federal Government has ordered striking doctors under the aegis of National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD). back to work immediately saying it has met six of the eight demands listed by the Association.

The Federal Government has also summoned the leadership of NARD to a meeting on Wednesday in Abuja.

Minister of Labour and Employment, Senator Chris Ngige, made this known in a statement issued by the Deputy Director/ Head of Press of the Ministry, Charles Akpan.

Ngige said even with the lean resources available due to the Covid-19 effects on oil output and price, resulting in low revenue, the Federal Government had addressed majority of their demands, including Special Hazard and Inducement allowances and Group Life Insurance.

He reminded the resident doctors that by the labour laws and the International Labour Organisation (ILO) conventions, when issues are being conciliated,all parties are enjoined not to employ arm-twisting methods to intimidate or foist state of helplessness on the other party, in this case, their employers the Federal Ministry of Health.
