Army Recovers Guns From Repentant Cultists In Emohua

Two ex-cultists said to have been among others who signed a peace accord in Obele Town in Emohua Local Government Area (LGA) during a joint operation by  men of Nigerian Army stationed at Ibaa, Emohua  and Elele in Ikwerre LGAs recently, were reportedly arrested and five AK riffles allegedly recovered from them.

The raid by the Nigerian Army in collaboration with local governments, according to impeccable sources, followed reports that some of the “repentant cultists” were still engaging in unholy activities which run contrary to the peace accord they signed.

A native of Obele community who did not want his name in print, explained that the army raided camps used by groups for nefarious activities, adding that a leader of one of the groups narrowly escaped from the military onslaught.

The report of the arrest of the “repentant cultists” lays credence to believe in some quarters that ex-cultists and ex-militants were still indulging in criminality despite pledges to shun their evil ways.

The Spokesperson of the 6 Division of the Nigerian Army, Major Charles Ekeocha was yet to respond to text enquiries from National Network regarding the reported arrests, before filing this report.

It would be recalled that “Degbam and Icelander” cult groups signed a peace accord three months ago in the presence of security agencies and Local Government officials.

Obele Town had been embroiled in cult related crisis for many years before the peace accord was signed by the warring groups
