Unity Road: Finishing Touches On  Last Bridge To Opobo

As work progresses on the Opobo Section of the Ogoni-Andoni-Opobo-Nkoro Unity Road, the contractors are putting finishing touches on the last bridge to the ancient Opobo Kingdom.

Top Government officials on Tuesday visited the project site, where work is progressing steadily. Governor Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has already linked the ancient Opobo Kingdom to the rest of the State via an alternative route.

Governor Wike assured the leaders of Opobo-Nkoro that he will ensure the completion of the Opobo Section of the Unity Road by May 29, 2020.

In an interview at the project site, Eugene Jaja, Chairman of Opobo-Nkoro Local Government Area thanked Governor Wike for sustaining the funding of the completion of the Road.

He said: “We are here today to find out the extent of work at the Opobo axis of the Ogoni-Andoni-Opobo-Nkoro Unity Road.

“From what we have seen, there is serious progress and hope that the work will be delivered. We expect that by May 2020, the road will be commissioned.

“The Opobo people are happy and we expect more projects from the Administration of Governor Wike. “

A resident of Opobo, Artemie Cyprian commended Governor Wike for keeping his promise to the people.

He said: “We thank the Rivers State Governor for the progress attained so far on the unity Road. We are happy with the investment so far.

“We pray God to give the Governor the wisdom to do more than this for our people.”

Also speaking, Florence Jaja expressed happiness that the project is on course to completion.

“I am very happy with this Road. We were using Kono and the other Akwa Ibom route and we were crying. We prayed to God to grant us this road and today, we have been blessed by a wonderful Road.

“We pray God to grant Governor Wike the strength to complete the road,” she said.
