Diobu Residents Sever Contract With PHED, Demand Refund Of N3m

Residents of Miles  2 and 3 in Diobu area of Port Harcourt has written to the Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company (PHED) seeking severance of the corporate relationship due to severe breach of contract.

The residents in a letter dated 18th March, 2020 and addressed to the Chief Executive Officer(CEO) of Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company (PHED) which was signed by representative of over 25 Streets, said they were no longer interested with the inept services being rendered by the company.

The residents in the letter which was sighted by our reporter, accused the Electricity distribution company of various unfair treatments ranging from payment for darkness, non availability of power supply, diverting of light supply to customers in their choice area, estimated and over billing among others.

The residents recalled that in a meeting before the office of the CEO on 18th March 2018 the company reportedly promised to suspend their officers who collected three Million Naira from the energy customers and refund the said amount.

The energy consumers in the letter decried a situation where the residents are made to buy electric cables and pole when there is fault despite the fact that it is not their responsibility.

They added that they were tired of paying for darkness and have exhausted all peaceful options aimed at making PHED to address their complaints, adding they will no longer pay for darkness and have also resolved that PHED should go with their light.

Investigations by our reporter show that the residents had earlier petitioned Commissioner of Police in Rivers State, CP Dandaura Mustapha on the alleged use of Police men by the company to intimidate the residents of the area.

Checks by National Network shows that at least 95 percent of energy Consumers in the area does not have Prepaid Meter as is the case in some parts of Port Harcourt.

The Spokesperson of PHED, John Onyi was yet to respond to text messages sent to his mobile line by our reporter as at time of filing this report.
