…Wants State Of Emergency In Agriculture
The Labour Party of Nigeria (LPN) has commended the Rivers State governor Nyesom Ezenwo Wike for what it said was his quick response to the people’s request to constitute his new cabinet to fast-track the governance.
Speaking with newsmen over the weekend in Port Harcourt, the National Vice Chairman of the party, Prince Favour Reuben said as the major opposition party in Rivers State, Labour Party would not relent to put the Wike administration on its toes in the overall interest of the people.
According to him, “We also call on the governor to concentrate and initiate capital projects aimed at generating technical development and employment for posterity”.
Prince Reuben said his party is worried that the governor is busy renovating schools, markets and internal roads meant for the council chairmen to handle.
Labour Party called on governor Wike to declare a state of emergency in the agricultural sector not only for employment of the teeming youths but for food security.
“We call on the governor to declare a state of emergency in the sector for a robust industrial and mechanized agricultural development of the state”.
The party however reaffirmed its commitment to the governor’s earlier promise for an all inclusive governance and used the opportunity to call on all political stakeholder, organized private sectors as well as all well meaning Rivers people to eschew their political differences and support the present Wike administration to deliver the dividends of democracy.
In answer to a question Prince Reuben said even if they are involved in the governance, Labour Party will still play its role as one of the major opposition political parties. “What we are after is good governance,” he said.
Labour Party also said that it would do everything possible to ensure that the Nigerian workers through the organized labour union get the promised N30,000 minimum wage as a party for the down trodden people of Nigeria.
“My party will go to any level to support the workers to ensure that the minimum wage agreed upon is implemented,” the Labour Party boss said.
