Concerned Group Advocates Equity, Justice In DELGA Political Arrangement

A group in Degema Local Government Area of Rivers State, the Concerned People of District/Oceanic Region of Degema, has appealed to stakeholders in the area to adhere to the age-long zoning arrangement that has been in use in the area in the interest of peace, unity and development of the local government area.

Briefing the press over the weekend in Port Harcourt, the Coordinator of the group, Mr. Lowal Fubara, explained that Degema Local Government is divided into two for easy administration, fairness and justice. “These include Axis section, made up of Bakana and Tombia towns as well as District/Oceanic region comprising Degema town, Bille kingdom, Usokun and Bukuma.

Fubara further noted that while governor Nyesom Wike has been trying hard to respect this zoning arrangement in all his appointments and sharing of basic amenities, some persons, especially from the Axis area, are bent on thwarting the zoning system to cause unnecessary crisis in the council area.

“Our Tombia brothers, particularly, have failed to realize and work for equity, justice and brotherliness as key points to peaceful co-existence and developments”, he said.

The group explained that Tombia has taken the Rivers State House of Assembly slot for Degema State Constituency, as represented By Hon. Farah Dagogo. “It, therefore, goes that if the honourable member is upgrading to the green chamber, another section of the local government should take up the position.

He explained further that the Executive Chairman of Degema Local Government Council, Hon (Dr) Tony Philimon, who hails from Bakana, is also occupying the position from the same section.

In a statement signed by Mr. Lowal Fubara from Bukuma and Mr. Who knows Daniel from Degema town, the group is advocating that the seat vacated by Hon. Dagogo at the Rivers State House of Assembly should be allotted to the District Oceanic Zone for possible replacement as equity demands.

They appealed to the State Chief Executive to intervene in the brewing crisis, as the District/Oceanic group would not stand aloof and watch others take everything they jointly own.

The group particularly requested that Hon Anthony Soberekon be allowed to represent the Degema State Constituency in the Rivers State House of Assembly.
