Rights Of A Widow Foundation Doles Out Christmas Gifts

As part of its usual selfless services to God and humanity, the Rights of A Widow Foundation on Saturday December 5, 2020 doled out Christmas gifts to widows across five Local Government Areas of Rivers State.

In an event tagged: “Reaching out with a kind heart” held at Rumeme Civic Centre, Port Harcourt, the foundation marked the day with over 230 widows in attendance, gave out bag of rice, salt, groundnut oil, tomatoes, chicken, wrappers and cash to each of them.

Speaking with newsmen shortly after the presentation of the gift items, the Chief Executive Officer of the Foundation, Miss Favour Chukwu described the gesture as philanthropic and God inspired. She expressed optimism that the gesture would put smiles on the faces of the widows.

Miss Chukwu explained that for now she is doing the project from her personal fund and called on other well meaning Nigerians to give the foundation the needed support so as to extend the project to more local government areas and extend to other states.

According to her, the foundation is a support programme designed to empower and assist widows, and draw attention to their voices, plight, travails and challenges.

The General Overseer of Royal House of Grace, Apostle Zilly Aggrey described Ms Chukwu as a woman with heart of gold, who has demonstrated great love, care and compassion for the widows, not only in her local government, but also in other parts of the state and even some widows from the Northern part of the country.

The man of God regretted that women are always at the receiving end at the death of their husbands, noting that  in some places widows are subjected to drink the water used in washing the corpse of the dead man as a way of proving their innocence.

He urged the widows to always pray to God, “as you keep serving the Lord you might not know who God will raise to train your children.” The man of God also supported the project with N500,000.

Rev. Mrs. Mummy Jane from His Grace Deliverance Ministry, on her part praised Ms Chukwu for recognizing and celebrating the widows whom she said are integral part of every society, saying the gesture would go a long way to cushion their financial burden in this era.

Some of the beneficiaries who spoke to our reporter said they were overwhelmed with joy and expressed gratitude for what Ms Chukwu did for them and prayed God to continue to bless her while describing her as a lover of widows and a philanthropist who has given them joy for the past 5 years.

The Foundation also offered free medical checks and free administration of drugs to the widows.
