CAN Affirms Efficacy Of Prayers  In Rivers Election

The Christian Association of Nigeria, Rivers State Chapter, has affirmed the efficacy of prayers at all times, especially during the 2019 general elections.

The CAN chairman, Most Special Apostle Stanley Dimkpa, PhD stated this over the weekend in Port Harcourt in a chat with newsmen.

He made it known that without the prayers of Christians, the situation especially during the about to be concluded 2019 general elections would have been worse.

“God answered our cry and prayers for a peaceful electoral process considering the threats before and during the election,” he said.

Apostle Dimkpa made it clear that in contrast, that INEC in charge of the 2015 general election is far better than the INEC of 2019 general election, adding whatever is the case, the Professor Atahiru Jega-led INEC completed the exercise on record time and declared a winner unlike the Professor Mahmood Yakubu led INEC.

He made it clear that this year’s general election was generally peaceful, stressing that if everyone, including politicians, voted, electoral umpire and  security agents had played by the rules, the problems encountered would have been avoided.

Dr. Dimkpa, however, blamed the INEC for the stalemate in the Rivers State election.

According to him, “INEC should be blamed for the suspension of the process. The delay is questionable and I find it difficult to believe that the results of Rivers State are still intact”.

The CAN Chairman made it clear that it is important for INEC to complete the electoral process, release the results and announce the winner in order to douse the tension in the State which he noted has stagnated the economy.

Also on the INEC stakeholders meeting on the resumption of election activities over the weekend in Port Harcourt, CAN in a statement maintained that the stand of the churches on the resumption of the collation of Rivers State governorship/House of Assembly elections results is that it condemns the initial suspension of the election process by INEC but welcome their preparedness to commerce the collation and announce the winner  and warned INEC to be more credible, transparent and diligent in adherence to the electoral regulations for acceptable and credible results.

CAN in the release signed by the chairman called on political gladiators to give peace a chance and play by the rules, noting that the people of Rivers State are not known to be violent but peace loving.

The group used the opportunity to pray that Almighty Jehovah God will grant the state and the country a successful completion of the electoral process.
