LG Polls: Outgoing Councillor Expresses Confidence In Conduct Of Election   

The outgoing councilor, representing constituency 2, Unit 18 in the Port Harcourt Local Government Area, Peace Wobo has expressed optimum and confidence in the conduct of the just concluded April 17 local government election in Rivers State.

She called on her PDP party supporters to play by the rules to strengthen the process. She stated this at Ojukwu field, which was the unit 18 in PHALGA as she came around to exercise her franchise.

National Network however disclosed that there was delay in the voting exercise at the venue. As at 8:30am on Saturday, security men, mainly (women) police officers were already on hand to provide security for the exercise. Also, officials of the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission, RSIEC were yet to be present as some party agents blamed their delay on logistics. But, RSIEC officials and other adhoc staff later appeared for the commencement of the exercise at about 11:00am. The exercise was generally peaceful at the unit.

Meanwhile, National Network observed that as usual, young boys around Diobu constituted themselves into football team as they pitched goal posts on the streets that were largely deserted to play football.

Similarly, some young adult men and women also took advantage of the security provided across the state to gather in groups at beer joints.

But a funny twist was added to the exercise when all eligible adult voter was accosted in front of his house and asked why he did not go out for the exercise, the man who pleaded anonymity said that he was being careful not to go out and cast his vote because of the COVID-19 pandemic. He stated that he believed crowds would surely gather for the election.
