Uvuahu Old Boys Lament Deplorable Condition Of Alma Mater

The Old Students’ Association of Government Secondary Commercial School, Ibaa, now Uvuahu Comprehensive High School, has raised alarm over the deplorable condition of their alma mater.

President, Uvuahu Old Students Association, Sir Dr. Harvest I. Major, raised the alerm when he led Exco and some members of the association on a fact finding to the school.

Recently, Dr Major who is a lecturer in Ignatius Ajuru University of Education, Rumuolumeni, noted with dismay the neglect and abandonment of their Alma mater, regretting that such a school which has produced men of integrity can be neglected and abandoned to that extent.

According to him, there are no electricity in the school, no chairs and tables for the teachers in both junior and senior schools, no toilets for the students and teachers, laboratory equipment in the school have been vandalized by hoodlums, no source of drinking water and no desks for effective teaching and learning.

He used the opportunity to call on the relevant stakeholders to come to the aid of the school.

Also speaking, National Secretary of Uvuahu Old Boys Association, Barr. Godson Eze Chinna stressed the need for well-meaning and spirited individuals, including the state government to come to the aid of the school to avoid total collapse.

Chinna, who is the Secretary, Rivers State House of Assembly Service Committee, opined that Uvuahu Comprehensive High School has produced people of proven integrity in the society and therefore, the school should not be allowed to collapse that way.

Barr Eze said that the alumni visit to the school on the 10th of August, 2021 was an eye opener on the pitiable condition of the school, regretting that the school environment is over grown with weeds, adding that urgent attention should be given to the school now in order to save the future of the young generation, especially those of them who hails from the community,

He appealed to state government and the companies operating in Emohua Local Government Area to assist in saving the condition of the school,

Some of the Exco members who were part of the fact-finding mission to the school include, the Assistant Secretary of the the association, Barr, Nath Ohuo and Treasurer, Joy Okachi Nnnah among others.
