Flood Incident: Business Operators Appeal For Govt. Assistance

Business operators at Npolu, Rumuigbo in Obio/Akpor local government area have called on the Rivers State government to intervene and help address the issues of incessant flood affecting their business operations in the area.

Some of the business owners interviewed expressed mixed feelings about the flood emergency affecting their businesses negatively.

According to Ibilado Maxson, who operates hair salon, whenever it rained in the area causing flood, some officials used to visit with assurances that something will be done . She called on authorities to help address the challenge. According to her, flood in the area must have been caused by excess sand in the underground drainage.

She lamented that the challenge often made customers to turn away as flood waters continued to settle in front  of their shops for day. According to her, the lack of access had made doing business difficult for some time.

Also speaking, Emmanuel Azutalam, who deals on cement and building baterials in the area expressed dismay over the issue. He blamed the flood on water surge from the East West road washing down to the area.

It would be recalled that both NEIMET, NEMA and NODSRA , all federal government agencies had warned about imminent flood disaster in the state, calling on the local governments concerned to rise to the occasion.
