Bayelsa State Governor’s Wife  Bags UN Award

…Task Citizens On COVID-19

The wife of the Bayelsa State Governor, Dr. Mrs. Gloria Diri has been conferred with the National Matron of United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC). The event took place at Golden Tulip Hotels, Port Harcourt Tuesday, March 23.

Presenting the prestigious award to Her Excellency, the African full Chairman, Prof. Nathan Tor Luga stated that the recognition and the award on the wife of the Governor as Matron of the United Nations Economic Social Council was predicated on her numerous achievements and development in the area of poverty eradication, Peace and Social Development through her Non-Governmental Organization.

Prof. Tor Luga maintained that the aim of the organization is to provide opportunity for the less privileged in the society by eradicating poverty in society through peace and development through the 17 Goals of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDG’s).

He said the body belongs to special consultative status of the United Nations where the NGOs belong. The African full Chairman, Prof. Nathan Tor Luga expressed satisfaction with the caliber of personalities who were honoured especially the award on the wife of the Governor of Bayelsa, saying that the UN Chatter empowers members to fight against poverty and fight against social vices in the society.

In her acceptance speech at the event, the wife of the Bayelsa Governor, Dr. Mrs. Gloria Diri who also spoke on the dangers of COVID-19 pandemic, tasked citizens to observe all the protocols by washing of hands, using of nose masks and hand sanitizers, saying during the lockdown there were loss of livelihood and loss of lives.

Earlier, in her welcome remarks, the National Chairman, United Nations Economic and Social Council, Amb. Dr. Blessing Gozo-Anyaoke said the platform was for God and humanity”.

She explained that the program was to inaugurate the South-South to reach the grassroots, by making good things happen to mankind, especially peace and tranquility, provide clean portable water and the eradication of poverty. “It is a platform to make history in Nigeria, helping mankind,” she stated.

In an interview shortly after the event, Her Excellency, Dr. Mrs. Gloria Diri said the award will bring more commitment, dedication and hard work for the newly inaugurated body.

Highlights of the event were the inauguration Ceremony/Award presentation of certificates to new officials of the body.
