Joy, Celebrations As Rotary Club Spring Garden, Port Harcourt  Commissions Okaki Water Project

It was all joy and excitement in the serene Okaki Community in Ahoada West Local Government Area, Rivers State recently, following the successful completion and commissioning of a water project by the Rotary Club, Port Harcourt Spring Garden.

The water project, one in the series of the Humanitarian Service Projects of the club, which first phase started last year was reportedly executed at the cost of nearly two million (N2m) naira.

Other projects carried out by the club in the area include: free medical tests/treatment, tree planting, women empowerment to the tune of twenty thousand (N20, 000.00) naira from which 10 women from the community benefitted and polio vaccination among others.

Speaking at the event, the Club President, Rotarian Chidi Paul said Rotary Club is all about humanitarian services for the wellbeing of society.

All the products executed in the area, he said, fall under the seven areas of focus by Rotary International.

Rotary Paul gave all the credit for the humanitarian projects to the commitment and dedication of club members that ensured the actualization of the projects.

He also gave kudos to his predecessor, Rotarian Ajoke Enebele under whose leadership the first phase of the commissioned water project started.

Rotarian Chidi Paul also called on the multinational companies to partner with Rotary Club Port Harcourt Spring Garden to make the society better for everyone.

On his part, the Club Service Chairman, Rotarian Akintomiwa Makinde said the projects were conceived and designed to give the people of Okaki Community a sigh of relief having suffered from lack of portable drinking water for so long. Rotary Club, he said, gives top priority to the rural areas in its projects execution.

The Okaki people who were visibly excited, expressed their heartfelt appreciation to Rotary Club Port Harcourt Spring Garden for the kind gesture.

High points of the event were the polio vaccination of over two hundred (200) persons against polio and other related diseases, and tree planting.
