Wike Legacy Day: Group Kick-Starts Event With Inter-School ‘Soccer Fire’

 

The Sharks Football Club Stadium will become the epicenter come Saturday, September 25, 2021 as four secondary schools in Rivers State will battle each other in a football tournament organized by the Civil Society Coalition on Good Governance, Budget and Accountability (CSCG BA), to kick-start activities marking the Wike’s Legacy Day slated for November, 2021.

Addressing journalists in Port Harcourt on Monday shortly after arrival from Abuja, the Executive Director of CSCG BA, Amb. Dr. Emmanuel Nkweke JP, said the tournament would involve four secondary schools in Port Harcourt namely, Enitona High School Borikiri, Government Comprehensive Secondary School, Borikiri, Government Girls Secondary School Rumuokwuta and Government Girls Secondary School, Oromineke.

He said the group chose to spice the November event with a soccer competition, as according to him, Governor Wike’s milestones in sports development in the state, is legendary.

Nkweke said the fixtures for the male football razzmatazz will pitch Enitona High School against Government Comprehensive Secondary School in the opener while Government Secondary School, Rumuokwuta will be up against Government Girls Secondary School, Oromineke in the female category.

The amiable Executive Director of CSCG BA, while stressing that the choice of the participating schools was not done in any particular order, however noted that the four secondary schools ranked amongst the oldest and most notable post primary institutions in the state.

He said the epochal football tournament which kicks off at 10 am, is being facilitated by the Office of Chief (Barr) Aribitonye Mohammed Okiri,the Special Adviser to the Governor on School Sports, adding that the State’s Commissioner for Education, Prof. Kaniye S.A. Ebeku will be the Special Guest of Honour.

Amb. Nkweke, while restating that the civil society group is apolitical, enjoins Rivers people and lovers of Governor Nyesom Ezenwo Wike to adjust their schedules and grace the event, assuring that the tournament would showcase soccer at its best.
