The Bille Kingdom Chiefs Council in Degema Local Government Area of Rivers State has successfully inaugurated its new executives.
The executives include Chief (Barr) Benneth Okpokie Dokubo-Opu Abekere (XV) – Chairman, Chief M.E. Omu – Opu Osia (XVI) – Vice Chairman, Chief M.V.C. Ebini Diri – Opu Osokso (II) – General Secretary; Chief D.D. Dappa – Opu Amabo (IV) – Asst Secretary; Chief (Hon) B.R.I. Dappa – Opu Pelebo (II) – PRO. Others are Chief G.C.Dappa – Opu Dukofa (II) – Financial Secretary, Chief A.O. Awowari – Opu Amanume (II) – Treasurer; Chief G.H. Nungo – Opu Ogu (II) – Provost and Alabo Engr. R.I.S. Amaso Ala (II) – Chief of protocol.
The new chairman, Chief (Barr) Benneth Okpokie Dokubo – Opu Abekere (XV) in his remarks pledged to work with various groups in line with the tenets and tradition of the ancient Bille Kingdom.
He assured that between then and December, 2019 through the people’s collective and concerted efforts, an election will be conducted to ensure that the throne of the Amanyanabo of Bille Kingdom is occupied.
He lamented that the stool has been vacant since 2009, adding that the kingdom cannot continue to exist without a monarch.
Chief Opu Abekere also expressed the readiness of his executives to implementing the Bille Kingdom Development blueprint that was put together at the recent summit.
Meanwhile, the Chiefs Council Chairman, Chief (Barr) Benneth Dukubo has commended the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) Bille Clan for his visionary leadership.
This was made known, when he commissioned an engine speedboat acquired by the group for public use in order to ease transportation challenges in the area.
The Chiefs Council Chairman acknowledged that it was the first time in the history of Bille Kingdom for a group like the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) Bille Clan to come up with such kind of gesture.
He expressed optimism that, if the needed support and encouragement is given, they will do more and used the opportunity to enjoin the group to partner with the chiefs in there development effort.
The chairman IYC, Bille Clan, Comrade Garrick Ibima Firstbury said in his remarks at the event that the project is part of his campaign promises. He also disclosed that they have concluded arrangements to carryout medical outreach for the elderly and children in Bille Kingdom.
Comr. Garrick appreciated God for the achievements within one year of his leadership and reiterated his commitment to take IYC Bille Clan to greater height.
