The State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) on Monday grilled a man who was allegedly caught strangling a thirty years old known as Blessing Obatarhe after the man broke into her compound, National Network has learned.
The grilling of the suspect followed the transfer of the case file from Police Area Command in Eleme to SCID in Port Harcourt
We learned that Obatarhe narrowly escaped death on Sunday night after attempt by a suspected serial killer to strangle her failed at AP area of refinery, Eleme LGA.
In an interview with our reporter the lady sait she came back from work and was relaxing in her room when she heard a knock on her door.
According to her, she thought it was a visitor unknown to her that it was a stranger.
Miss Obatarhe stated that the moment she opened her door, the man grabbed her and pushed her to the bed and started strangling her with a belt while she continued to scream.
She revealed that at that point people heard her screaming and came to her rescue.
Another residence of the building also simply identified as Blessing told our reporter that when she heard the alarm she and her brother rushed down and saw the man strangling the woman. . Madam Blessing stated that she quickly called the military men who were close and they arrived the scene almost immediately.
Blessing said upon interrogation, the suspect allegedly confessed to be a serial killer who has passion for killing. Madam Blessing called on the Police to ensure Justice on the matter.
The suspect was handed over to Police Area command in Eleme.
The spokesperson of Rivers State Police Command, SP Omoni Nnamdi said the command is aware of the matter. SP Omoni said it is a case of attempted murder not serial killer.
As at press time, the suspect is helping men of SCID in investigation.
