FA Cup Final:  Narrow Miss For Go-Round FC As Rivers United Clinch FA Cup

HOW IT HAPPENED

Shedrack Oghali scored the decisive spot-kick as Rivers United defeated Nigeria National League side, Go Round FC on penalties to secure the Rivers State FA Cup title after a 1-1 draw at the Sharks Stadium.

Paul Acquah put the “Pride of Rivers” in front with a brilliant finish following a sweeping move to give the FA Cup holders the lead after just 7 minutes.

But Go Round levelled in the 33rd minute when Prince Chinda slotted home the equaliser from a goal mouth scramble to send the game to penalties.

Five perfect penalties sealed victory for the “Pride of Rivers” at Sharks Stadium after Go Round FC attacker Moses missed his kick.

WHAT THIS MEANS

Rivers United will represent Rivers State in the National stage of the AITEO Cup and will confront Sokoto United in Lafia, Nasarawa State on a yet to be confirmed date.

 

WHAT NEXT?

Rivers United will return to Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) action as they are guest to Nasarawa United on Sunday 27th June, 2021
