Chief Akanfe Takes Over As New Rivers State Butchers’ Rivers State Butchers’ Union Chairman

The National Butchers’ Union of Nigeria, Rivers State chapter now has a new Exco to pilot the affairs of the union for the next 3 years.

While inaugurating members of the union in Port Harcourt on Sunday, October 30, 2022, the National President of the Union, Chief Dr. John Osademe Adun charged the new chairman, Chief Muranaabibu Akanfe and his colleagues to be committed to the cause of the union.

The Chief Osademe Adun cautioned the new executive against the use of their office to inflict pain on the members of the union, but use the opportunity to promote peace among the butchers in the state.

He also charged them to work with the state government for the benefit of all, and shun tribalism.

Chief Adun said he is very optimistic that the regime of Chief Akanfe has the capacity to take the union to greater heights if only he would keep to the advice he has given him.

The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture Mr. Ogolo Maurice commended the union for the peaceful transition from one executive to another and urged them to sustain the tempo for the benefit of all Rivers people.

According to him, the Ministry of Agriculture will continue to give the union whatever support the ministry can, in the area of vetinary doctors’ inspection and assured Rivers people of regular consumption of good quality meat.

The President General, Yoruba Community Council, Chief Dr. Adekunle Bright Alabi urged the newly sworn in chairman to always exhibit the peace the Yorubas are known for, among his colleagues.

Chief Akanfe in his response thanked the former National President for his fatherly advice and promised to promote the spirit of love, unity and progress amongst members.

He maintained that as a one time PRO of the union, he will use his wealth of experience to correct the loopholes that had been there before his emergence.

The new chairman also enumerated the union’s challenges to include the inability to access soft loans, lack of state secretariat in the state for proper administration for the butchers, no standard slaughter houses and pleaded with the government at various levels and corporate bodies to come to their aid.
