Hope Rises For Women Enteprenures.

…As Bill To Empower Them Inherit Family Property Gets Legislative Attention. 

The unfair tradition and culture which discriminates against women in terms of owning property especially landed property on grounds of sex   making it difficult for women enteprenures to access capital loans may soon be a thing of the past especially in River State.

This is sequel the presentation of the bill to stop practices which forbade women from sharing in family property before the Rivers State House of Assembly for consideration.

Presenting the bill on the floor of the House, member representing   Obio/Akpor State Constituency 2, Michael Chinda explained that the purpose of the bill was to check discriminations against women in the society.

He further noted that women as human beings should enjoy their family inheritance just like their men counterparts.

In a related development, three executive bills have been presented on the floor of the House. They are Rivers State Integrity and Accountability Commission Bill 2021, Rivers State Housing Scheme for Judicial Officials Bill, 2021 and Rivers State Judicial Institute Bill 2021.

Presenting the bills, the House majority leader, Mr Martins Amaewhule, explained that the purpose of the bill on integrity and accountability was to provide a legal framework to fight corruption in the civil service. 

According to him, the bill is also expected to promote accountability and good governance in the state.

The House leader also explained that the Housing Scheme for Judicial Officers Bill, 2021 is aimed at empowering the Rivers State government to provide lifelong accommodation for judicial officers of Rivers origin, as part of their terms of employment so as to enhance their performance and living conditions.

The third executive bill is to establish an institute for the training and retraining of judicial officers, including those from the customary courts. 

 Mr Amaewhule, further explained that the initiative would help to improve the knowledge and competence of judicial officers.
