The funeral service, which held at St. Thomas Anglican Church, Mike 2 Diobu in Port Harcourt Local Government Area also had the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila in attendance.

In his condolence message to the family, the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike said Late Mrs. Sarah Ihunda Opara was an extraordinary woman of substance, who was a devoted Christian, a pillar of strength to all her children and relations.

According to him, even at the ripe age of 96, late Mrs. Sarah Ihunda Opara was kind-hearted and showed unconditional love to everyone, which makes her death an agony that words cannot fully describe.

He noted that Late Mrs. Sarah Ihunda Opara raised her children properly to become respected personalities in their chosen profession, and God fearing too.

In his sermon, Primate, Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion, Most Reverend Henry Chukwuka Ndukuba, admonished Christians to embrace hope that connects to the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ in order to live victorious life.

He noted that Late Mrs. Sarah Ihunda Opara had lived  a worthy legacy of faith in God, hard work, and peaceful community life that should be maintained by family members and friends.

Ndukuba said the year 2020 is characterised by challenges like covid-19, #EndSARS protest and creation of SWAT which demand new ways of doing things in Nigeria.

According to him, even if criminal elements hijacked the #EndSars protest to cause the destruction experienced in parts of the country, the Federal Government should not ignore the demands of #EndSars protesters who wanted an end to police brutality, better life, and jobs provided for the youths.

Other dignitaries at the event included the wife of Former President of Nigeria, Dame Patience Jonathan, former Governors of Rivers State,  Dr. Peter Odili and Sir Celestine Omehia.
