Rivers  NAPPS Elects New Exco

The National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools (NAPPS), Rivers State Chapter has successfully elected new executives to pilot her affairs in the next three (3) years.

The election which was held on Tuesday 13 August, 2019 and conducted under tight security at the popular People Club Hall, along Rumuola road, Port Harcourt was observed by some NAPPS national and south-south zonal officers. In their separate interviews observers confirmed that the election was free, fair and credible.

Those elected included Dr (Mrs.) Roberta Tamunotekena Dosunmu, President; Comrade Sunday Adafe Jaja, Vice President; Mrs. Helen Henry, Secretary-General; Mr. Akilo Rasheed, Asst. Secretary-General; Lady Abigail Uwakwe, Treasurer and Mrs. Yvonne Ben-Kalio, Financial Secretary.

Others were Mrs. Rita Edeawe, Asst Fin-Secretary.

Chief Adah Emmanuel, PRO; Mrs. Ifeoma Okonkwo, Welfare Offr I, Mrs. Udongwo Emmanso, Welfare Offr II; Mr. Brooks Eboiyehien, Provost and Pastor Tamunotonye Aberepikima, Secretary Seminar & Training.

In her acceptance speech shortly after the election, the chairman-elect, Mrs. Dosunmu thanked God and her colleagues who have given them the opportunity to serve the union in various capacities.

She pledged that the executive will carry everyone along in the scheme of things especially now according to her “that the union is facing very challenging times which calls for innovative and determined leadership to confront the very serious issues facing us as a group in the state” she declared.

Dr. (Mrs.) Dosunmu reeled out the vision of her administration which she noted is to transform NAPPS Rivers State as an association that would be reckon with nationwide.

On the NAPPS mission she said, it is to offer credible leadership that will boost members’ confidence and trust in the association.

She equally disclosed that the philosophy of the association under her leadership will be the protection and overall growth of the business of all NAPPS members.

“We shall not only ensure that members benefit from the union, but shall embark on membership drive to increase our population and as well reconcile those who might have left the association for one reason or the other.

The chairman elect also used the opportunity to roll out her programme of activities in the next few years to include harmonization of transfer certificates issue from one school to another in an attempt to protect their members from fraudulent parents who invade school fees in different schools.

NAPPS under the new exco, the chairman-elect said will ensure transparency and accountability especially in its finances.

She also promised to tackle the problem of multiple taxation by engaging all government agencies in a dialogue with a view to reach a favourable rate to her members.

Dr. (Mrs) Dosunmu made it known that her administration will consult widely on all major issues concerning the association and will also be extensively discussed and everybody’s inputs considered in arriving at a decision.

She equally promised training and capacity building for members and as well consider areas of investment for the union.

She also informed the excited audience that there will be social and business events where members would interact with an informal setting.

“NAPPS under my administration shall strictly practice time management especially in our meetings”, she noted.

“Above all, the chairman-elect promised, the welfare of members will be given utmost priority by the current administration”.

In this regard she stated that “the association will be part of ceremonies and events of members if invited for the socialization of NAPPS members”.

Dr. (Mrs.) Dosunmu appealed for the continued support and prayers of members for the success of the current executives. While promising an open door policy in her administration, the chairman-elect stated that their watch-word remains ethics and integrity in the management of NAPPS affairs.

The outgoing chairman, Chief Hon. Victor Green expressed gratitude to God for a successful election which marked the end of his two term tenure of six (6) years.

He however promised to inaugurate the new exco and handover officially in a month’s time where he said he intends to address the press and perhaps render his stewardship.
