Cracks In OYF As NEC Suspends Coordinator

Trouble is brewing among the leadership of the Ogoni Youth Federation (OYF) over the purported convention of an emergency executive meeting by its National Coordinator, Comrade Yamaabana Legborsi held on September 20, 2018.

Consequently, five members of the 7-man executive led by the Spokesman, Emmanuel Gote Bie, after the National Executive Council (NEC) meeting of the body held on Friday, September 21, 2018 issued a communiqué purportedly placing indefinite suspension on Comrade Legborsi and directed him to vacate his office.

The communiqué which was signed by Barrister Bale Horace (Secretary General); Comrade Mesua Ntormabari (Assistant Secretary Genera); Lene Kingsley Lekue (Publicity Secretary); Emmanuel Gote Bie (Spokesman) and Dimkpa Kingsley, said the suspension of Legborsi was backed by the group’s constitution.

“In line with article 10 (b) of OYF Constitution, disciplinary committee constituted by Legborsi Yamaabema Sunday without the consent of other executive members is null, void and inconsistent”, the communiqué read.

Continuing, it added “That section 2 paragraph (a) of the constitution was fragrantly breached as only Legborsi Yamaabama Sunday cannot constitute 2/3rd majority of the executive members.

“In line of the foregoing, the national executive unanimously suspends Comrade Legborsi Yamaabana Sunday indefinitely”.  It added that in the absence of a Vice President, Comrade Dimkpa Kingsley would serve as Acting President.

An effort to reach Comrade Legborsi on his phone line failed as his phone was switched off. But a source from OYF told this medium that Legborsi has challenged the action of the group, saying the suspension was illegal and baseless.
