LG Election: RSIEC Begins Recruitment Of 20,000 Adhoc Staff

…Sets Out Dates For 23 Local Government Areas

With less than two months to the Local Government elections in Rivers State, the body charged with the conduct of the polls, Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC), has begun recruitment of Adhoc staffers that would pilot the momentous event.

According to a release signed by the Secretary to the Commission, Douglas W. Chukwu, the recruitment, totaling about 20,000 Adhoc Staff, would be carried out in two categories with the first comprising Local Government Returning Officers (LGROs), Ward Returning Officers (WROs), Supervisory Presiding Officers (SPOs) and Presiding Officers (POs).

For the second categories, Poling Clerks (PCs), Assistant Poling Clerks (APCs) and Poll Monitors (PMs) respectively, would also be recruited by the Commission.

The release stated that applicants for the first category must be  holders of university degree and must be computer literate, while those applying in the second category would possess NCE, OND, WASC, GCE, SSCE or NECO certificates and must also be computer literate. All applications, according to the release, would be done online.

The RSIEC has also released the dates for the application, according to the respective Local Government Areas in the State, as well as a special date for those who missed their local government’s day.

Breakdown of the timetable shows that applicants from ONELGA and ABUA would kick start the process on Monday, March 1, 2021 while ANDONI and OKRIKA would take their turn on Tuesday, March 2, 2021.

The rest are: Wednesday, 3rd March, 2021 (OBIO/AKPOR); Thursday, 4th March, 2021 (PHALGA and BONNY); Friday, 5th March, 2021 (ETCHE and OPOBO/NKORO); Saturday, 6th March, 2021 (KHANA and TAI); Sunday, 7th March, 2021 (NON-INDIGENES); Monday, 8th March, 2021 (IKWERRE and OGU/BOLO); and Tuesday, 9th March, 2021 (EMOHUA and ELEME).

Other dates are Wednesday, 10th March, 2021 (AHOADA EAST and AHOADA WEST); Thursday, 11th March, 2021 (OYIGBO and DEGEMA); Friday, 12th March, 2021 (GOKANA and OMUMA); Saturday, 13th March, 2021 (AKUKU-TORU and ASARI-TORU); and Sunday, 14th March, 2021 (FOR PEOPLE THAT MISSED THEIR LOCAL GOVERNMENT DAY).
